How We Test

The criteria behind every rating and ranking on this site — so you know exactly how we reach our recommendations.

A review is only worth trusting if you know how it was made. This page explains exactly how we research, assess and rank the products we feature — and the rules we never break while doing it.

Our review principles

Three rules sit above everything else we do:

Honesty first. We describe products as they really are — strengths and trade-offs both. If a product has a weakness, we say so, even when we recommend it overall.

Independence. Payment never buys a ranking, a rating, or a favourable verdict. Our recommendations are based on our assessment, not on who pays us.

Full disclosure. When an article contains affiliate links or a paid partnership, we label it clearly. You can read exactly how we earn money on our Advertiser Disclosure page.

What we assess

Every product we feature is researched and evaluated against the same consistent criteria:

Quality & ingredients

What the product is actually made of — ingredient lists, materials, additives and preservatives — checked against the claims on the label.

Real-world experience

How the product performs in actual use, drawing on our own assessment and genuine feedback from real users — not marketing copy.

Value for money

Price weighed against quality and quantity — including price-per-unit comparisons, so a bigger sticker price doesn't hide better value (or worse).

Trust & transparency of the brand

How openly the brand operates — accurate labelling, realistic claims, and required certifications for its category.

Buying experience

Availability, delivery, packaging and customer service — because a great product with a poor buying experience isn't a great recommendation.

How our rankings work

In comparison guides ("best of" lists), we weigh the criteria above for the specific category and reader. Our #1 pick is the product we'd most confidently recommend to our own family for that use case — not the most expensive, the most famous, or the one that pays the highest commission. Where different products suit different needs (budget vs premium, regional styles, dietary preferences), we say who each pick is best for rather than pretending one product wins for everyone.

What our ratings mean

Scores labelled "Editor's rating" are exactly that: our editorial judgement based on the criteria above. They are not aggregated customer star ratings, and we never present them as such. Where we reference user feedback, it comes from genuine sources.

What we never do

We don't sell rankings or ratings. We don't publish undisclosed sponsored content. We don't invent reviewers, testimonials or user reviews. And we don't recommend products we wouldn't buy ourselves. The moment any of that changes, our reviews become worthless — so it doesn't change.

Prices, updates and corrections

Prices and availability change constantly, so treat the figures in our articles as indicative and always confirm the live price with the retailer. We review and update our guides periodically, and if you spot something outdated or incorrect, we genuinely want to know — write to us at support@trustedproductsreviews.com and we'll look into it.

Questions?

If anything about our process is unclear, ask us — transparency only works if it goes both ways. Reach us via our Get In Touch page. And if you're a brand interested in being reviewed, our Work With Us page explains how that works — including why a partnership never buys a better verdict.
